50% of the time, it works everytime...

5th June 2021 Apologies for the shonkiness of this page, I wanted to get the OpenTTD delivery estimator tool up and in place before I come back to it and tart this up and add some proper instructions. You can watch the video on YouTube to get a handle of how the thing works. As you can see from the video, it's not an exact science :) I'd suggest using it more as a rough indicator than staking your company on it! You'll find information about the train engine and wagons in OpenTTD when you create your train. To get the coordinates of your station, use the question mark tool from the toolbar in OpenTTD. Once you've input the numbers, press the big blue button and the relevant details will appear below. This was a lot of fun to make, I hope you enjoy it. It does have bugs and inconsistencies and will be improved over time. I've not got everything set up as I would like yet, not even email. if you would like to get in touch to comment or ask a question, post a comment on the YouTube video. Here is a bit of an overspill of my brain of things I need to remember and things I have to do: NOTES: - It is only a best guess predictor - many of the events are governed by a certain random chance. As a comparison between two train designs to weigh the pros and cons, it ought to be a good indicator. - It's only designed to work on the flat, but probably will cope with a few sparse incline/declines - It doesn't take breakdowns/depot stops into account - It doesn't allow split cargoes - It doesn't allow mixing engines - It hasn't been fully tested - It assumes no waiting cargo at station, basically only for the first visit the train makes - It only works for British pounds £ (GBP) - Speeds are only in kilometres per hour - I've not tested it with anything other than steam trains...I guess it works the same for diesel and electric! - This probably won't work with mag-lev trains as they don't have rolling resistance, nor vac-tube trains as they face no air resistance IMPROVEMENTS - Output tiles travelled - Output days travelled (include outbound and return journeys) - Input error checking - Allow waiting cargo to be set - Provide lists of engines from the game with preset parameters - Include costs of train & running costs - Save & compare different train configurations - Better tuning, of course (especially the loading algorithm) - Split view of cargo time factor (how much was excellent, how much good, how much bad) - Add option for mag-lev & vac-tube trains Go back to the OpenTTD goods calculator.
